Nepal flood: 149 Indians rescued, 500 safe in China

Nearly 150 Indians were rescued from flash flood-hit Nepal as of 5.30 pm on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

While 403 Indian citizens had safely crossed into Nepal from China, 500 were reported safe on the Chinese side of the border, it added.
The toll in the flash flood and mudslide in Nepal and China, which occurred on Wednesday, rose to 768 on Sunday.
Nearly 3,000 persons were missing. This included 275 Indians, New Delhi had said on Saturday night.
The technical team from India for tunnel rescue retrieved the mortal remains of one person from a tunnel near the Langtang hydroelectric project amid harsh weather conditions, the external affairs ministry said on Sunday.
More than 100 workers are believed to be trapped inside multiple hydropower tunnels in Nepal.
“The tunnel rescue operations team continued its work today and supplemented the search and rescue efforts of Nepali Army at hydropower sites in Chilime and Langtang,” the ministry said.
A 19-member forensics team sent from India to assist in analysing the DNA samples to identify the mortal remains of those who died in the floods began functioning on Sunday. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava briefed the team.
