Orlando Pirates put top spot on the line
Orlando Pirates will be looking to maintain their position at the summit when they face Kruger United on Tuesday night.
The Buccaneers have collected 10 points from their opening four matches and will see this as an opportunity to strengthen their grip on first place against a side currently struggling near the bottom of the standings.
Orlando Pirates’ strong start has put early pressure on the chasing pack, but with Mamelodi Sundowns also unbeaten, there is little margin for error.
Mamelodi Sundowns face double test
Mamelodi Sundowns have two fixtures to negotiate in the space of four days.
First up is a home clash against Milford FC at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday, before the champions travel to face Golden Arrows on Sunday.
Mamelodi Sundowns come into the week on the back of an entertaining 5-2 league victory over AmaZulu, a result that highlighted their attacking threat, but also showed they can be vulnerable defensively.
Milford FC have made an impressive start following their promotion and will provide Mamelodi Sundowns with a stern test before Golden Arrows, who have also remained unbeaten, await them in Durban.
Kaizer Chiefs aim to keep pace
Kaizer Chiefs are third and will be hoping to remain within touching distance of the leaders when they host Siwelele FC on Sunday.
The Amakhosi have yet to taste defeat this season and will see the fixture as an opportunity to add another three points to their tally.
With Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns both facing demanding fixtures, Kaizer Chiefs could potentially close the gap at the top with another victory.

Durban City vs Stellenbosch FC opens Tuesday’s action, while Marumo Gallants vs Polokwane City and Richards Bay vs AmaZulu headline Friday’s programme.
