Steelers make major Joey Porter Jr. decision amid contract impasse

It's no secret that Joey Porter Jr. and the Pittsburgh Steelers are at a contractual impasse, but that didn't stop the team from making a huge decision as its initial 53-man roster is finalized.

In an assortment of moves tied to their final roster cuts, the Steelers activated Porter (back) off the physically unable to perform list, where he's remained since the start of training camp.

Porter, who was drafted by the Steelers with the 32nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, is in the final year of his rookie contract and may be looking to reset the already $30-million-plus cornerback market.

With Porter off the PUP list, all eyes will be on whether or not he decides to hold out during practice as extension talks continue to unfold. That wouldn't be the end of the world for Pittsburgh, who does have Asante Samuel Jr. waiting in the wings for a bigger role, but we at Steelers Wire will monitor the situation surrounding Porter as we get closer to the regular-season opener.
