The school shared the heartbreaking news with its community, adding that staff and pupils had gathered to say their final goodbyes to the young learner.
A memorial service was held in the school’s hall on Wednesday, providing pupils and staff with an opportunity to remember Wezzie and pay tribute to her life.
As a lasting memorial, her Grade 2G classmates also planted a lemon tree on the school field in her memory.
‘Wezzie will be missed’
Sea Point Primary said the young pupil would be deeply missed by the school community.
“With heavy hearts we said our final goodbyes to our dear Wezzie in Gr 2G who sadly passed away,” the school said in a message on social media.
“A touching memorial was held in the hall and Gr 2G planted a lemon tree on the field in her memory.”
The school extended its condolences to Wezzie’s family and loved ones during what it described as a painful time.
“Wezzie will be missed by all at SPPS,” the school said.
The cause of the child’s death was not disclosed by the school.
The lemon tree will now stand as a living tribute to the young learner and a reminder of the place she held within the Sea Point Primary community.
