Detroit Lions place veteran LB on IR

On Tuesday afternoon, the Detroit Lions announced that they had placed Damone Clark on injured reserve, ending his 2026 season before training camp ends barring an injury settlement with the Lions.

Clark has been dealing with an undisclosed injury that he suffered early in training camp. The Lions signed Clark in March as depth at the linebacker position behind Derrick Barnes and Malcolm Rodriguez.
"Damone, he is done, indefinitely. This injury took place, shoot, man, three weeks ago, I guess. Two weeks ago. So, unfortunately, it's significant enough to where he'll be out indefinitely," Campbell said in his media availability on Tuesday.

Originally drafted out of LSU by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Clark has played in 55 NFL regular-season games and started 26. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound linebacker's most productive season came in his second professional campaign in 2023 when he started all 17 games with a team-leading 109 tackles, alongside four tackles for loss, three passes defended and one fumble recovery.
In his four-year NFL career thus far, Clark has totaled 212 tackles (129 solo), six tackles for loss, four passes defended, four quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 0.5 sacks.
In a corresponding move, the Lions signed center Gus Hartwig.
The Lions' final preseason game will be on Saturday, Aug. 29 against the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. ET from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
