The Boston Red Sox are getting healthy at the right time, and that's a very good indication of what October could look like.

Obviously, the Red Sox are hopeful that guys like Garrett Crochet, Roman Anthony, and Trevor Story will all be back sometime in the next few weeks, at the very least, and give them a chance to win in October.
However, there are some other guys who are also in the mix to return, including 2024 All-Star Tanner Houck. According to the latest report, while it's still unlikely that he returns, he's moving closer to a rehab assignment and is a potential relief option towards the back end of the campaign.
“Tanner Houck said in spring training that his goal was to return from Tommy John surgery this season, even though the Sox thought it was unlikely. It still might be a long shot, but Houck is moving closer to a minor league rehabilitation assignment and could be a relief option before the year is out,” Peter Abraham wrote.
The Red Sox will have to decide on Houck over the next few weeks based on how he looks. In the 2024 campaign, he was just as good as anybody in the Red Sox rotation, starting in 30 games and posting a 3.12 ERA.
His lone All-Star season saw him as a full-time starter, but he was a reliever in 2022, throwing in 32 games and making just four starts in that campaign.
