The latest arrests were made in Mdantsane and KuGompo City over the weekend as investigators continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Police confirmed that another person who had initially been taken in for questioning has since been released.

Suspect to appear in court
One of the four suspects is expected to appear in the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 August.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana said the 22-year-old suspect, who was arrested on Saturday, 22 August, has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder.
“The 22-year-old suspect arrested on 22 August 2026 has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder and is scheduled to appear before the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on 24 August 2026,” Gantana said.
The attempted murder charge relates to a 27-year-old woman who was travelling with Tete when the shooting took place.
She was wounded during the attack and remains in hospital.
More arrests expected
The other three suspects are expected to appear in court at a later stage.
Police have indicated that the investigation remains active and that more arrests are expected as detectives continue gathering evidence and following leads.
Zolani Tete’s death has prompted widespread mourning in the boxing fraternity.
The Mdantsane-born fighter enjoyed an illustrious professional career and became a two-division world champion, cementing his place among South Africa’s most successful boxers.
Police have appealed for information that could assist investigators in establishing exactly what led to the shooting and identifying everyone involved.
