Jaissle slams ‘really soft’ penalty call in Newcastle’s draw with Liverpool

Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle labelled the late penalty awarded to Liverpool as “really soft” after his side’s 2-2 draw at St James’ Park.
Liverpool were awarded a spot-kick late on after Victor Munoz went down in the box under a challenge from Lewis Hall, with the visitors converting to snatch a point and leave Newcastle frustrated after goals from Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock had put them ahead.

“I have clear thoughts,” Jaissle said on the decision.
“For me, it is a really soft penalty. If you give this as a penalty, then you need to give a lot during this match and a lot during the season, and I do not know if this is good for football.”
Despite his frustration, Jaissle was proud of Newcastle’s performance and believes the draw provided plenty of encouragement.
“It was a game of mixed feelings, especially the end when you get a decision that takes two points away, it’s hard to digest,” he said.
“But there’s also a lot of confidence and we’re really proud of what we see in the full 90 minutes.”
