The Golden Girls Kitchen, running from Aug. 20 through Nov. 8 in Austin, combines recreations of recognizable settings with food tied to the series, including cheesecake flights, Cuban sandwiches, Sal's Sicilian meatball sub and Miami-style cookies, according to event booking platform Bucket Listers.

The pop-up taps into the lasting nostalgia surrounding the sitcom, which starred Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty as four friends sharing a home in Miami.

The show became known for the friendship among Rose, Dorothy, Blanche and Sophia, along with the group’s conversations around the kitchen table.

Food was often part of those moments, particularly cheesecake, which became one of the sitcom's most recognizable traditions.

The women frequently gathered around the kitchen table over slices of cheesecake while talking through relationships, family problems, and other ups and downs in their lives.

The Austin pop-up nods to that tradition with cheesecake flights, along with other dishes inspired by the show and its Miami setting, according to Bucket Listers.

The familiar kitchen is also among the settings recreated for the experience, complete with the recognizable yellow telephone.

The concept has previously appeared in cities including New York City, San Diego and Atlanta, among others.

Reaction to earlier versions suggests much of the appeal has centered on nostalgia and how closely the details resemble those from the original series.

One Reddit user who attended the New York City version said "everything was SO realistic," specifically pointing to the kitchen, porch and Rusty Anchor.

"Every 20 minutes, the theme song played, and everyone there sang along!!" the user wrote.

Another attendee praised the décor but was less enthusiastic about the meal.

"We had a blast but the food definitely was not it," the Reddit user wrote, adding that the cheesecake was good despite being partially frozen.
