Report: Klay Thompson gives up nearly $10 million to reach buyout with Mavs
· Yahoo Sports
After agreeing to a buyout with the Dallas Mavericks earlier this week, former Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson agreed to join the Miami Heat in pursuit of another NBA championship.
Following the move, NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype revealed that Thompson left $9.8 million on the table to facilitate the move. According to Spotrac, Thompson's contract with the Mavericks was originally worth $17.4 million for the 2026-27 season. However, having amassed $298 million in career earnings over 15 seasons entering 2026, Thompson was content to pass up on the money for a better opportunity to win his fifth NBA championship.
