Manuel Neuer has offered a glowing assessment of Harry Kane, highlighting just how much the England captain brings to Bayern Munich beyond his extraordinary goalscoring record.

“He’s definitely very important. We all know what kind of scoring record he has for us. We also know how hard he works for the team, both offensively and defensively. He never gives up, always trying to get behind the ball. Of course, we also know his ‘quarterback qualities’ with the passes he makes. And he can really score with any part of his body. And he always has an eye for his teammates. He’s a total team player, which is often underestimated. And of course, his quality in the box is something everyone talks about. We just know what we have in him,” Neuer told Sky Germany journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

It is easy to focus on Kane’s goals when discussing his impact at Bayern Munich, but Neuer points to the qualities that make him so much more than a traditional No. 9. Kane’s ability to drop deeper, create chances, link play, defend from the front and bring teammates into the game gives Bayern Munich another dimension.

Then, of course, there is his finishing. Few players can combine Kane’s passing range, physical presence, intelligence and elite goalscoring ability in one package.

For Bayern Munich, having a player of Kane’s quality leading the attack provides an enormous advantage.

As Neuer put it, “We just know what we have in him.”
