Shams Charania denies falsely reporting on LA Lakers and Jeanie Buss sale

Speaking on the Pat McAfee show, ESPN insider Shams Charania issued a response to Jeanie Buss and her attorney about him reporting on the Buss family selling their LA Lakers equity.

Charania maintained that his reporting was accurate, and he wasn’t trying to push an agenda on anyone’s behalf, before pushing back on the insinuation that he didn’t take his reporting seriously.

“I do have to say that letter included my name in it, which I do find interesting. I do have to make it clear; I fully stand by my reporting.

“What I reported was that there was a majority vote, at least four of six necessary to be able to close a transfer as far as the tagalong provision. I had a statement from the Buss family trust.

“The first line of the statement from the lawyer said that I reported that the 6 Buss siblings voted to sell. That key sentence right there is inaccurate.

“I fully stand by my reporting. I handle every story with care, including every story with the Lakers.”

Charania came under massive criticism from fans after Buss’ statement, as they believed that Jeanie and her attorney had brought his irresponsible reporting practices to light.

However, the ESPN insider has not only doubled down on his reporting, but he also suggested that Buss and her attorney’s statement was absolutely wrong.

Charania has been criticised by fans for several years, especially since he joined ESPN to replace Adrian Wojnarowski, for not being as diligent with his reporting as his mentor and predecessor.

But now Charania has finally pushed back in a public way, something he has never done before. This could lead to an extended back-and-forth between Charania and Buss’ attorneys.
