Baker Mayfield shared on Tuesday, Aug. 18 that he has reunited with his extended family, almost two years after he filed a lawsuit, along with his wife Emily, alleging that his father and brother had not repaid $12 million dollars that they stole from him.
“In the past few months, I’ve been reconnected with my family,” the Tampa Bay Buccaneers star, 31, told the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s been good.”
He added, “Also, for them to have two grandbabies, it’s tough. What’s in the past is in the past. Emily and I took [daughter Kova] down right around her first birthday. ... First time they met her, and you [could] tell it just melted them.”

In November 2024, the Heisman Trophy winner and his wife of seven years filed the lawsuit, alleging that his father, James, and brother, Matt, had failed to repay the money as part of a settlement agreement reached a year earlier.

In August 2023, the Mayfields sought an audit that showed unauthorized money had been taken from their accounts from 2018 to 2021 into businesses connected to Baker’s father and brother.
Despite the alleged impropriety, the signal-caller is now taking the high road.
“You can’t put yourself on a pedestal and act like I haven’t made mistakes in my life,” he told the Times. “I had the ability to forgive and that was what I wanted to get across. But we’re here and the door is open. The past few months, we have made good progress and began reconnecting.”
In April, Baker and Emily, 35, welcomed their second baby, son Maverick.
“Baby Mac is here 🩵 Maverick Thorne Mayfield April 16, 2026 - 9 lbs Soaking up these sweet moments as a family of 4 + 🐾 🥰,” Emily shared on her Instagram Stories.
With two children 2 and under, the Mayfields are adjusting to life as a family of four, as Baker enters the final year of his three-year, $100 million contract.
One of the NFL’s sturdiest QBs — he has not missed a regular-season game in 51 starts — Mayfield is seemingly enjoying his journey despite an uncertain future in Tampa.
“I get Chris [Godwin], Luke [Goedeke], Tristan [Wirfs], Bucky [Irving],” Mayfield told the Times about spending time with his teammates off the field. “They’re at the house, they come over. Hang out.”
He added, “We’re in the living room. We order food. It’s fun. It’s kind of a s--- show now with the kiddos involved, but the more the merrier. You go through it together and you’ve got to enjoy it, the good, the bad and the pain.’”
