The Malaysian retailer will open its latest Durban store at Saxony Westwood on 14 August 2026, adding to its growing presence in South Africa.
The opening is part of MR.DIY’s wider expansion strategy, with the retailer targeting 14 stores across South Africa by the end of 2026.
A grand opening event for the new store is scheduled for later this August.
MR.DIY is growing its Durban presence
MR.DIY only entered the South African market in 2024, opening its first store at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre.
It has since expanded to locations including Irene Village Mall, Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre, Norwood Mall and Mall@Carnival.
The retailer’s South African expansion has continued at a rapid pace, with more stores planned across the country.
Its Durban presence is particularly significant as the company continues to expand beyond its initial Gauteng footprint.
What can shoppers expect?
MR.DIY operates large-format stores carrying between 17 000 and 18 000 products, covering a wide range of everyday needs.
Shoppers can expect products across categories including:
- Homeware
- Hardware
- Stationery
- Toys
- Décor
- Small electronics
- Lifestyle essentials
The retailer’s business model is centred on offering a broad range of products at affordable prices, effectively positioning its stores as one-stop shops for everyday items.
The new Westwood Mall store will bring that offering to more shoppers in the Durban area.
MR.DIY is also expanding elsewhereThe Durban opening comes as MR.DIY continues its expansion into new parts of South Africa.
Its first Mpumalanga store is also scheduled to open at Highveld Mall on 19 August 2026, just days after the Durban launch.
The company expects to have 14 stores operating nationally by the end of the year, with its longer-term goal being to establish a national presence.
