Jason Whitlock is not happy with the way the WNBA has handled the situation with Sophie Cunningham.

Cunningham has become somewhat of a lightning rod both on and off the court in the WNBA. Her role as one of the enforcers on the Indiana Fever made her a polarising figure for many fans.
But in recent weeks, Cunningham’s comments on the trans athlete issue have made her an even more controversial presence in the league than before.

Speaking on his show, Jason Whitlock addressed DiJonai Carrington’s hard foul on Sophie Cunningham and suggested that it was a way to retaliate against Cunningham for her outspoken stance on the trans athlete debate.
Whitlock claimed that Cunningham is being silenced by the WNBA’s ‘sisterhood’ for not aligning herself with the moral values the league tries to present to the world.
“Sophie will not bend the knee on men in women’s sports. Sophie will not run the approved script after she gets her mouth bloodied.
“So Sophie is not ‘sisterhood’ material. She is content. She is a problem to manage. She is the woman the machine is built to isolate.
“DiJonai Carrington is not the random villain of the week. She is the perfect instrument of this culture… She wears her politics on her chest. Activist posture, quick to the culture war.”

Speaking further on the matter, Whitlock suggested that Carrington’s refusal to apologise to Cunningham for the foul was a clear sign that she was working to protect the state media-endorsed narrative.
“When the trans athlete fight heated up around Sophie’s public stance, Carrington did not stay out of it; she stepped in. Then she stepped into Sophie at the rim.
“When the ejection hit, she did not apologise to the woman with her blood in her mouth; she posted ‘White Privilege’ in all caps. That is the whole ideology.
“Hurt a woman outside the circle, then accuse her of systemic advantage… Sophie is the victim of the foul and the defendant in the narrative. That system only works if the media runs it for you.”
Whitlock has long been a staunch critic of the WNBA for their refusal to condemn the progressive politics of many of their players.
For him, seeing Cunningham become one of the pre-eminent voices in the trans athlete debate was a huge plus.
Even though the rhetoric surrounding the WNBA does not make any sense given that there are no trans athletes in the league or any who have attempted to enter the league.
But that hasn’t stopped Whitlock and other voices like him from discussing this issue and crafting a narrative against the WNBA.
