Iowa women's basketball offers 4-star forward from familiar program

Iowa women's basketball continues its busy offseason on the recruiting trail by offering 2028 four-star forward Maliya Hunter, who attends a familiar high school that could give the Hawkeyes an edge.

The 6-foot-2 forward hails from San Jose, Calif., and attends Archbishop Mitty High School, the same program that five-star Iowa signee McKenna Woliczko played for and where the two were teammates. Hunter also plays for the Jason Kidd Select program.

Per ESPN's 2028 SportsCenter NEXT - Super 60 rankings, Hunter is the country's No. 22 player. Hunter also checks in as the No. 33 player nationally and the No. 5 player in California in Prep Girls Hoops' 2028 rankings.

During the 2025-26 campaign, Hunter earned first-team honors from the San Jose Mercury News' All-Bay Area News Group. She was also a first-team All-WCAL selection.

Hunter was part of USA Basketball's U17 national team that recently captured the 2026 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup title over Spain in July. Hunter averaged 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game on 48.1% field goal shooting in 15 minutes per game.

Alongside Iowa, Hunter has received offers from schools such as Ohio State, Stanford, Michigan, Oregon and UCLA.
