15-hour water disruption for several Cape Town suburbs this weekend

Residents in several Cape Town suburbs are being urged to prepare for two planned 15-hour water supply disruptions this weekend while the City carries out testing on a critical bulk water pipeline.

The maintenance will take place during two overnight periods:
- Friday, 7 August: 19:00 to Saturday, 8 August, 10:00
- Saturday, 8 August: 19:00 to Sunday, 9 August, 10:00
The City said the work is necessary to conduct acoustic leak detection testing as part of a broader programme to assess the condition and reliability of its bulk water infrastructure.

According to the City, the planned water disruption may affect water supply in the following areas:
- Century City
- Tygerhof
- Brooklyn
- Koeberg
- Ysterplaat
- Summer Greens
- Milnerton
- Kensington
- Factreton
- Maitland
- Goodwood
- Athlone
- Langa
- WP Showgrounds
- Pinelands
- Thornton
- Parow
- Ruyterwacht
- GrandWest
What residents can expect
The City said most affected areas are expected to experience low water pressure rather than a complete water outage, as supply will be rerouted during testing.
However, residents and businesses are being asked to reduce water consumption to essential use only during the maintenance periods to help maintain supply for as long as possible.
Water tankers will also be deployed where necessary to provide water for essential domestic use.
As a precaution, residents are also encouraged to store enough water in clean, sealed containers before the maintenance begins.
The City said the overnight work forms part of its ongoing programme to monitor the condition of critical water infrastructure, helping identify potential leaks and improve the long-term reliability of Cape Town’s water network.
