Mikel Arteta refused to be drawn on speculation linking Arsenal with Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior but insisted the Premier League champions remain ambitious as they continue to strengthen their squad.
The Arsenal manager was asked about the club’s transfer plans after Saturday’s 4-1 pre-season victory over Girona, where he made it clear that more business is expected before the window closes.

“Well, we are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That’s clear,” Arteta said. “We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously, because we want to get better like anybody else. And you can just see the transfer market and our opponents.
“What we are doing, we won’t sit still, and we are very ambitious in what we want to do.” Arteta’s comments come amid continued speculation over Vinicius’ future at Real Madrid.

Although Arsenal are understood to be monitoring the Brazil international’s contractual situation, Sky Sports News reports that the Spanish giants have no intention of selling the 26-year-old and remain confident he will sign a new long-term deal.
Vinicius has entered the final year of his current contract, prompting interest from several clubs, but Real Madrid continue to regard him as a key part of their long-term project.
Arteta was later asked, in a light-hearted exchange, when Vinicius would be arriving at the Emirates Stadium. The Spaniard responded with a smile before walking away without addressing the question.
Arsenal have made only two senior additions so far this summer, signing Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier, but Arteta’s latest comments suggest further arrivals remain a priority as the club prepare to defend their Premier League title and challenge on multiple fronts.
While the Arsenal boss offered no indication that a move for Vinicius is imminent, he left little doubt that the club intend to remain active in the market over the coming weeks.
