Bafana Bafana star defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi could be lost to Chicago Fire in the near future, according to his agent Basia Michaels.

Mbokazi moved to Chicago Fire in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in a surprise move in December 2025.

And while his move to the US was not so well received, the burly centre-back has, so far, proved the critics wrong.

Some felt going to the MLS was just a waste of talent while others believed the move was a stepping stone to greater things for Mbokazi.

It has now been revealed that Mbokazi has actually attracted interest from a number of clubs in Europe’s top leagues.

According to Michaels, Mbokazi, who is currently injured, may not even return to Chicago Fire for the 2027 MLS season.

“He might not be there [for the 2027 MLS All-Star Game],” Michaels told Andile Ncube on Metro FM.

“So, we could find ourselves in a position where we move [him], but he is injured, yes.

“After the World Cup, the eyes, attention, inquiries and noticing of the player is significant – from top-five European leagues, big teams.”
