OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – After losing a group of 14 seniors, the Hancock County Hornets are handing the keys over to a new group of young hungry players.

“A lot of times within a small school you’ll have a big class, you’ll have a smaller class, and you’ll have a big class,” said head coach Bobby Eubanks. “So those guys may not have gotten to see as much action as they wanted to you know early on. But those guys have stayed with us and understand the process, are stepping right in and doing exactly what they need to do.”
With a sturdy foundation in the Hornet’s nest, there’s enough confidence in the younger group to fill in for the graduated players and keep the team playing at a high level.
Senior Brady Eubanks said, “We’ve always been the team instead of rebuilding we’re just going to replace these guys. We’re going to plug in guys and they’re going to play. Everybody on the team has, they don’t just play one position they play every position. So you know we’re just going to replace those guys and get in where we can.”
Brady is one of the players that does it all for Hancock County. The Swiss Army knife for the Hornets is back for one final season with his dad calling plays from the sideline. And neither wants the ride to end in a down season.
“He’s a great teammate you know and he knows what the coaches expect. You know he’s been around those guys since he was four years old. You know, so he knows kind of what the expectations are. We have high expectations for him at home, my wife and I both do. You know so him going in and kind of be that buffer between the coaches and the players has been really big for us over the last four years,” said Coach Eubanks.
“I’m glad that he’s been able to be my coach all the way through it and I’m thankful for the man that he’s been to me my whole life,” Brady said. “And I’m thankful for the man he’s trying to make me into.”
For his senior year, Hancock county is trying to be less depended on Brady’s play and will hand quarterback snaps to sophomore Tripp Hager.
Brady said, “He’s a fantastic person. He’s becoming a leader in front of my eyes. I just love being around Tripp, he’s a great dude and he’s a great leader and teammate for us. And you know he’s one of those guys you want to play for.”
“Him being able to come in and be open and willing to listen to coaching and help from his teammates has been a hit,” echoed Coach Eubanks. “It’s been huge.”
