49ers WR depth chart after Deebo Samuel signing, Ricky Pearsall injury
· Yahoo Sports
The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back a familiar face in the wake of Ricky Pearsall's unfortunate injury update. Deebo Samuel is reportedly signing a one-year, $7 million deal to return to San Francisco, where he developed into one of the NFL's most unique and productive players under Kyle Shanahan.
The move comes after Pearsall's outlook for 2026 got murky. The 2024 first-round pick is dealing with knee swelling following a PCL injury he suffered last year, and as such he's not expected to contribute much this season, according to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.

Samuel spent his first six seasons with the 49ers before a pit stop with the Washington Commanders in 2025. The South Carolina product famously contributes as both a receiver and running back, and last year he recorded 72 catches for 727 yards to go along with 17 carries for 75 yards, scoring six total touchdowns.
The best season of Samuel's career was 2021, when he earned first-team All-Pro honors while tallying 1,770 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns rushing and receiving.
49ers projected WR depth chart after Deebo Samuel signing
WR1: Mike Evans
WR2: Deebo Samuel
WR3: Christian Kirk
WR4: De'Zhaun Stribling
WR5: Demarcus Robinson
WR6: Jacob Cowing
WR7: Jordan Watkins
Evans and Samuel are expected to take the X and Z positions, respectively, on the outside. Kirk is the favorite to win the slot receiver job. It's a talented group, but age and injury concerns are something to monitor as all three projected starters are 29 or older.
