Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s son, Elijah Bieniemy, has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting, reportedly of his mother, Mia Bieniemy.
Elijah, 27, was charged with three felonies — use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious wounding and discharging a firearm within a building — according to Loudoun County, Va. court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Monday, July 27.

Bieniemy was arraigned early Monday morning. A preliminary hearing is set for Monday, Aug. 31
Mia Bieniemy was shot at the Virginia home she shares with the coach on Sunday, July 26, and hospitalized, according to ESPN sources.

Mia was in stable condition on Monday morning, ESPN Chiefs writer Nate Taylor reported in an update.
Loudoun County officials told the outlet that an individual was treated for “serious injuries.” The victim’s identity was initially not revealed, according to the report.

“The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” the Chiefs told PEOPLE in a statement on Monday, July 27.
“Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Bieniemy, 56, was in Missouri on Sunday as the team kicked off its second practice of training camp, ESPN reported.
The coach, who returned to the Chiefs this offseason after stints with the Chicago Bears and UCLA, previously held positions within the Chiefs organization for a decade, from 2013-2023.
Chiefs star Travis Kelce was among those who welcomed the coach back into the fold earlier this year — and pointed to Bieniemy as one of the reasons he put off retiring.
“I still love going to work, putting on the pads, grinding it out and just playing the game, you know, and I think my best opportunity was playing for the Chiefs yet again and running this thing back with Pat Mahomes and Coach Reid,” Kelce said on The Pat McAfee Show in March. “And got my guy Eric Bieniemy, Coach Bieniemy back, and there’s a lot of pieces in Kansas City that I just I absolutely love and I can’t wait to get back in the building with.”
