In this day and age, it’s hard to see non-autonomy conference players not only stick around with their programs, but be nationally recognized as one of the better players in the country at their position.

For Brad Jackson, a redshirt sophomore at Texas State, this is his reality. The Athletic ranked all 138 projected starting QBs at the FBS level for next season, and Brad Jackson was the clear G6 star at the position (even though I think the G6 term is a bit unfair to conferences like the American and the Pac-12) and 27th overall.
Brad Jackson’s dual threat abilities make him an exciting player to keep an eye on next season
Jackson’s main appeal isn’t his throwing ability, although he is more than capable of beating teams with his pinpoint passing and range. Instead, his rushing prowess is unlike any other G6 quarterback and would definitely play at the P4 level.
Combine that with a pro-QB scheme thanks to G.J. Kinne and a star-studded receiving core that doesn’t need him to be superhuman to create opportunities (Beau Sparks, Chris Dawn Jr.), and it’s no secret why the redshirt sophomore is considered by many as the top non-autonomy quarterback in college football.

And, for a program that until recently didn’t live up to its sky-high potential, Texas State struck gold with Jackson. It wouldn’t have been a surprise to see him transfer to a P4 school, but somehow, the Bobcats will have him at the helm for their inaugural Pac-12 season. These opportunities don’t come around much in the modern college football landscape; if Jackson can replicate his 2025 numbers, Texas State should be in the conversation of teams that could viably make the CFP.
