Focused on the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday night in New York, Fabian Ruiz will not have to worry about his contract extension at PSG, as it has already been settled for some time, although ultimately for a longer period than initially expected.

Ruiz, 30, began his 2026 World Cup with an ordinary performance against Cape Verde, much like the rest of his team, and Luis de la Fuente then decided to replace him with Barcelona's Pedri for Spain's next four matches.

However, against Belgium in the quarterfinals and France in the semifinals, the two-time reigning European champion regained his place in the starting lineup, scoring against Belgium before delivering an outstanding performance against France.

Barring a major surprise, the Andalusian is expected to start again on Sunday night against Lionel Messi's Argentina in the final. With a victory, he could join the exclusive group of players who have won the UEFA Champions League and the World Cup in the same year. Over the past two years, Ruiz has already won UEFA Euro 2024 and two Champions League titles, with perhaps the ultimate prize awaiting him this Sunday.

At 30, Fabian Ruiz has just one year remaining on his PSG contract, and talks over an extension have been ongoing for months. Last January, Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reported that the extension was virtually completed through 2029, then in April, RMC Sport specified that it was a one-year extension (through 2028) plus an optional additional year.

However, in recent hours, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Fabian Ruiz will extend his contract with PSG through 2029, with an additional optional year (through 2030) at PSG's discretion. In other words, a two-year extension plus one optional year compared to the player's current contract. According to the same source, the extension was finalized two months ago.

In recent months, PSG has also finalized several other contract extensions that the club has not yet officially announced. Luis Enrique (through 2030), Joao Neves (through 2030), Willian Pacho (through 2030) and Senny Mayulu (through 2031) have all reportedly reached agreements with PSG on new contracts, while Lucas Beraldo is also close to extending his deal through 2030.

Two other players have yet to reach an agreement with the club despite months of discussions: Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele, both of whom are under contract with PSG through 2028. The two France internationals share the same agent and were focused on the 2026 World Cup this summer.

While the 2025 Ballon d'Or winner has already stated that he will remain in Paris next season, the former Lyon player has not yet guaranteed that he will stay at the club next season and will be one of the key situations to watch before the transfer window closes.
