CBS Sports reveals how hot Bill Belichick's seat is in 2026

The North Carolina Tar Heels are preparing for year two of the Bill Belichick era in Chapel Hill. The hope is that things improve, following a 2025 debut season in which they won four total games.

UNC missed out on a bowl game for the first time since 2018, resulting in the firing of Larry Fedora. So as we go into the 2026 season, it's an important one for Belichick and his staff. The problem? They have a very tough schedule ahead of them.

Before North Carolina opens up Fall camp in two weeks, CBS Sports has released its annual "hot seat" rankings for every division one head coach. Unfortunately, for Belichick, they believe that the seat is officially hot for the head coach.

On a scale of 1-5, Belichick's hot seat ranking is at 4.1 which is up from 2.1 at this time last year. It's also the third highest among coaches on the list behind only Maryland's Mike Locksley at 4.9 and South Carolina's Shane Beamer at 4.3.

It's clear that Belichick needs to improve this season. North Carolina really can't afford another bad season under him, especially with how much they are paying him. Unless there is significant improvement in this campaign, it feels like there will at least be some hard conversations to have.
