MLB Draft 2026, Day 2, Rounds 5-20: Rockies preview and discussion thread

The Colorado Rockies completed a busy opening day of the 2026 MLB Draft by selecting five college players across the first four rounds.
Colorado began with Kentucky shortstop Tyler Bell at No. 10, then used consecutive picks on Georgia catcher Daniel Jackson at No. 37 and UCLA right-hander Logan Reddemann at No. 38. The Rockies returned to the catching position with Cincinnati’s Jack Natili at No. 76 before closing Day 1 with Mississippi State right-hander Ben Davis at No. 104.

The group provided the first substantial look at the amateur strategy of President of Baseball Operations Paul DePodesta and General Manager Josh Byrnes.
Bell gives the Rockies a switch-hitting shortstop who gets on base. Bell posted a .510 on-base percentage in 2026.
Jackson adds a power-oriented catcher with athleticism and considerable upside, while Reddemann brings velocity, a deep arsenal and the advanced feel to develop as a starter.
Natili gives Colorado a second power-hitting catcher with a more traditional build for the position. The 21-year-old hit .339 with 19 home runs for Cincinnati in 2026 and pairs that production with a strong throwing arm and improving work behind the plate. Like Jackson, there is swing-and-miss risk, but Natili’s arm strength and defensive foundation give him a plausible path to staying at catcher.
Davis is a physical right-handed reliever with a big arm. He worked exclusively out of the bullpen for Mississippi State in 2026 and projects to remain there as a pro. His fastball sits in the mid-to-upper 90s, has reached 100 mph and is complemented by a hard cutter and slider, giving him the kind of power mix that could move quickly.

The Rockies begin Sunday with the 136th overall pick and will make 16 selections across Rounds 5-20.
Colorado went entirely with college players on Day 1, adding a shortstop, two catchers and two right-handed pitchers.
There is still plenty of talent available, and this is where teams begin building real organizational depth.
It will be interesting to see how the Rockies continue adding to the pitching ranks, particularly whether they target more starters, left-handers or relievers with one standout pitch.
On the position-player side, the question is what kind of offensive profiles they prefer. Do they continue betting on power despite some swing-and-miss concern, or begin adding more contact and approach to balance the class?
