Gable Steveson UFC debut ends with decisive TKO

Gable Steveson won his UFC debut on Saturday night with a TKO victory over Elisha Ellison. Steveson, the legendary Minnesota wrestler, is now 4-0 in his professional MMA career.

Steveson was a two-time NCAA wrestling champion and won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which he celebrated with a backflip. There has been no shortage of opportunities for Steveson since his amateur wrestling career ended. He tried professional wrestling and spent a preseason with the Buffalo Bills, despite having never played football before.
Now he’s finally arrived in the UFC.
While his first win came against a fighter who doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page, Ellison’s nickname, The Snack Panther, should count for something. Steveson remains very inexperienced so the UFC will likely move him along slowly and try to feed him other young fighters or guys who are past their prime who have a name to help build him up.
Considering Steveson won this fight so quickly, we will probably see him again as soon as the right opportunity arises.
