Bryce Chance goes from Mississippi State walk-on to Blue Jays pick in 2026 MLB Draft

Mississippi State baseball outfielder Bryce Chance was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on July 12.
The pick, No. 312 overall, has a slot value of $191,900.

Chance does not have any college eligibility remaining and exits Mississippi State as a fan favorite. The Ridgeland native walked on to the team in 2022, didn't play at all as a freshman, then turned into a three-year starter.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Chance rarely hit for power — he had 14 home runs as a Bulldog with two in 2026 — but led the team with a .349 batting average in 2026.
Chance first started getting playing time in 2023 when he made 27 starts in 36 games. By 2024, he was a full-time starter. He began the 2026 season as the starting left fielder but moved to center field late in the season.
One of Chance's best games in 2026 came against Vanderbilt when he batted 4-for-5 with three RBIs and one run. The only home runs he hit in 2026, one against Texas and one against Auburn, were both grand slams.
His .349 batting average ranked seventh in the SEC. Chance also led Mississippi State with 13 stolen bases.
