Besides club play, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had a historic career in the World Cup since making his first World Cup appearance in 2006. Portugal finished fourth in that tournament. His first finish ended up being his best and Ronaldo never lifted a World Cup trophy.

Among his World Cup accomplishments are having one of the 57 hat tricks in World Cup history and becoming the first man to score across six tournaments. His goal in this year's round of 32 match against Croatia was the first knockout goal of his storied tenure in the global competition.
