Trey Washington's tenure with the Colts

Following the 2025 NFL draft, the Colts signed Washington as an undrafted rookie.

Recapping Trey Washington's 2025 season

Washington was bounced around last season. He was originally released during roster cutdowns and then signed to the practice squad. In September, he was released from the practice squad and then re-signed in a matter of days.

On October 1st, he was signed to the active roster, where he remained for a month until he was waived. Washington then ended up back on the practice squad, where he remained for the rest of the season.

Washington appeared in two games defensively, playing 36 snaps. He logged three total tackles and allowed three completions on three targets for 28 yards. Washington also played 26 special teams snaps over four games.

Looking ahead to 2026 for Trey Washington

The Colts reshaped the safety room this offseason, potentially leaving little room for Washington to make a roster push.

Cam Bynum, AJ Haulcy, and Hunter Wohler are roster locks, while Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas are recent free agent additions. That is potentially five roster spots accounted for, and it's not often that a team keeps six safeties.

That said, the Colts can get out of Owens' and Thomas' deals with relative ease if needed during roster cutdowns. There will be a prerequisite that Washington will have to meet defensively in order to make the team, but being able to contribute on special teams will be a must if he is going to surpass Owens or Thomas on the depth chart.
