As Meredith Marakovits of YES reported, Carlos Lagrange has a shoulder injury and is going to miss a lot of time. The Yankees' top prospect, and righty flame-thrower, is expected to miss at least six weeks.

This injury report for the Yankees is obviously terrible, but it's bad not just because of Lagrange being hurt; it's a huge blow to their trade deadline plans.

2 reasons why Carlos Lagrange's injury is terrible for the Yankees

"Carlos Lagrange has been diagnosed with a capsular sprain of the right shoulder and will not throw for approximately six weeks," Marakovits reports.

This is a brutal injury report for the Yankees and Lagrange, which means he's going to miss at least six weeks, and likely, most of August, along with all of July.

The 23-year-old Yankees righty pitching prospect had a 4.55 ERA in 63.1 innings this season, and recently made a transition to the bullpen to see if he could earn a promotion to the Majors to help the Yankees' bullpen.

There's still a chance that he's healthy enough to factor into the Yankees' postseason plans later this year, but it's a lot more uncertain following this injury.

But the other notable side-effect of this injury is that the Yankees will no longer be able to use Lagrange as a premier trade chip. In looking to add help to the bullpen, at catcher, third base, or shortstop, the Yankees could've used Lagrange to land a top trade target.

Now, since Lagrange is injured, his trade value won't be as high, and the Yankees would be foolish to trade him when his value is much lower than it should be.

Lagrange's injury is terrible for him and the Yankees, but factoring in the impact of this injury for the trade deadline, this injury is an especially terrible one for the Yankees.

While the impact on Lagrange is the more important outcome of this injury, how it affects the Yankees' plans at the August 3 trade deadline is also very noteworthy.
