The Boston Red Sox's streak of 12 consecutive quality starts came to an end on Tuesday during their 8-1 loss to the Washington Nationals at Fenway Park.
Unfortunately, it was because Connelly Early left the game early with an injury.
Early pitched four innings, two shy of a quality start. He was dealing before leaving, allowing no runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
However, the rookie lefty did not come out for the fifth inning despite being at just 61 pitches. Per MassLive's Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox announced that Early exited with left elbow discomfort.

That's bad news for Boston, which completely unraveled after his departure. The bullpen surrendered eight runs, ending the team's five-game winning streak and squandering Early's strong outing.
It will be a big blow to the Red Sox's rotation if Early is forced to miss additional time. The 24-year-old has yet to miss a start this season while emerging as one of Boston's best pitchers, going 7-5 with a 3.44 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and 93 strikeouts in 91 2/3 innings.
