Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was among those who paid homage to LeBron James when the latter confirmed that he was going to leave the Los Angeles Lakers this summer after spending the past eight years of his NBA career there.

In his appreciation post, Abdul-Jabbar floated the idea of James returning to one of his former teams while joking that he could run for a government position when he retires from basketball.
“LeBron was a winner on and off the court, and Lakers fans should appreciate his performance for the last 8 years. If LeBron goes home to Cleveland, it won’t matter if they win the world championship or not because it’s Hometown fans will get their opportunity to say their goodbyes to one of the greatest ever,” Abdul-Jabbar wrote on X.
“And who knows, one day he may become Mayor!!” he ended.

LeBron James has made it clear that he is still gunning for his fifth career NBA championship. According to his agent, Rich Paul, James ultimately left the Los Angeles Lakers because the team is focused on building for the future, which no longer aligns with his timeline.
“LeBron knows the Lakers are building for the future, and he also wants to compete for championships,” Paul said via The Athletic.
“We do want to evaluate what’s best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count,” he continued.
Despite being 41 years old, James has proven he can still play at a high level. This past season, the four-time NBA champion averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists on 51.5 percent shooting from the field across 60 regular-season appearances.
James won’t have any shortage of suitors, with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors being his top predicted landing spots this offseason.
