The New York Knicks are champions, sitting on the NBA's throne for the first time in decades. Now, 29 other teams will go to work in hopes of dethroning them.

With the NBA Draft having come and passed, the time for basketball's established stars and veteran contributors to change teams has arrived. Nowadays, rather than hit the open market, superstars tend to force a trade to preferred destination — take the recent Bucks-Heat Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster for example — which means there aren't many big-name unrestricted free agents this summer. However, as it has many times in his legendary career, one name looms above them all: LeBron James.

With James' decision between retirement, re-signing with the Lakers or signing elsewhere remains to be seen, there are a few more lingering storylines developing this NBA offseason. With Antetokounmpo and LaMelo Ball already on the move, will Kawhi Leonard or Jaylen Brown join them on the trade market? Will James Harden and Jalen Duren re-up with their former squads or head somewhere new? And how will the Spurs, Thunder and Knicks re-tool as the top 2027 title contenders?

The Sporting News has you covered with all the latest NBA news as free agency officially arrives, marking a time of player movement across the league. Here's the latest on where players are heading, including moves from earlier this offseason.

NBA free agency live news, updates on signings and trades

Warriors trade for Anthony Davis 'unlikely'

Windhorst reports that the Warriors don't appear to want to include Jimmy Butler in a deal, which is a big piece of a potential Davis trade. Therefore, Washington is more likely to keep him than to send him to Golden State.

Wizards have interest in Russell Westbrook

The veteran point guard spent last year with the Kings but could be headed back to Washington, where he played the 2020-21 season. The Wizards made the playoffs as a No. 8 seed with Westbrook in 2021, but lost to the 76ers in the first round.

Kawhi Leonard trade to Raptors could happen soon

According to Windhorst, the Raptors and Clippers have agreed on players in the deal but are still negotiating draft pick compensation. That is far enough along, though, for Windhorst to believe that Leonard could be traded ahead of free agency on June 30.

Jalen Duren wants to play for Kings, Domantas Sabonis open to Pistons

Jalen Duren "very much wants" to play for the Kings, and Domantas Sabonis is interested in a move to Detroit via sign-and-trade, Sam Amick reports. Duren is a restricted free agent, but a gap in negotiations has reportedly led Duren to explore other opportunities.

Jalen Duren to meet with Lakers

In addition to the Kings, restricted free agent Jalen Duren will hold a call with the Lakers when free agency begins Tuesday. Duren isn't unrestricted, but he is reportedly hoping to engineer a sign-and-trade out of Detroit.

Harrison Barnes returning to Spurs

Veteran forward Harrison Barnes has agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal to return to the Spurs. The 34-year-old Barnes took a bit of a step back in the playoffs after starting 52 games in the regular season, but he's been a valuable leader for a young Spurs team and will play out his 15th NBA season in San Antonio.

Warriors re-signing Kristaps Porzingis

Kristaps Porzingis struggled to stay on the court last season as he continued to recover from an illness, but the Warriors are bringing back the big man on a two-year, $40 million deal. Golden State acquired Porzingis from Atlanta ahead of February's trade deadline.

Jalen Duren meeting with Kings, angling to leave Detroit

Restricted free agent Jalen Duren will meet with the Kings when free agency begins and is hoping to work out a sign-and-trade to get out of Detroit, Chris Haynes reports, due to a wide gap in negotiations.

Kevin Huerter returning to Pistons

The Pistons are re-signing wing Kevin Huerter to a three-year, $27 million contract. Huerter split this past season between Chicago and Detroit, averaging 10.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

Jazz re-signing Jusuf Nurkic

The Jazz will keep veteran center Jusuf Nurkic off the open market, as Nurkic will sign a two-year, $22 million deal to return with Walker Kessler's future up in the air.

Spurs extend Julian Champagnie

The Spurs are declining Julian Champagnie's option and rewarding him with a three-year, $45 million deal after an impressive playoff run for the former undrafted free agent.

Clippers pick up option for Brook Lopez, decline Bogdan Bogdanovic, Nicolas Batum

The Clippers are declining options for veterans Bogdan Bogdanovic and Nicolas Batum, but they are picking up center Brook Lopez's $9.2 million option as he prepares for a 19th NBA season.

Knicks re-signing Landry Shamet

Another key role player from the Knicks' championship roster is back, as New York is re-signing guard Landry Shamet to a four-year, $24 million deal. Shamet averaged 9.3 points per game for the Knicks this past season, shooting lights out in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Hawks decline Jonathan Kuminga's $23.4 million option

The Hawks are declining F Jonathan Kuminga's $23.4 million club option, making him a free agent after a solid finish to the season in Atlanta.

Trail Blazers acquire Ja Morant from Grizzlies

The Grizzlies are trading PG Ja Morant to the Trail Blazers, in exchange for forwards Jerami Grant and Kris Murray. Morant, once considered one of the NBA's best young guards, fell out of favor in Memphis and saw his value tank after battling injuries, inefficiency and off-court troubles over the last handful of years. For now, Portland has Morant, Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday in its backcourt.

Hawks acquire former lottery pick Devin Carter

The Hawks have acquired G Devin Carter and a future second-round pick from the Kings in an apparent salary dump. Carter, a lottery pick two years ago, played only 74 games in Sacramento and averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game this past season while battling efficiency issues.

Andrew Wiggins agrees to new deal with Heat

Heat veteran Andrew Wiggins has opted into his $30.2 million player option for the 2026-27 season and is extending his contract through 2029, making it a three-year, $64 million deal with a player option for 2028-29.

Draymond Green declines player option

Warriors forward Draymond Green has declined his $27.6 million option for next season, making him a free agent tomorrow. Green had been expected to pick up his option and return for a 15th season, but this move is another indication that the Warriors are looking to pursue LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Green is still likely to return on a reduced salary in that scenario.

Warriors set to pursue LeBron James, Anthony Davis

The Warriors are planning to make a pitch to LeBron James and Anthony Davis about playing for the franchise, ESPN reports, with negotiations between James and the Lakers having "gone nowhere."

Davis is under contract with the Wizards, so reuniting him with James would require Golden State to work out a deal.

Kawhi Leonard trade buzz picking up with Raptors, Mavericks involved

It remains unclear how serious the Clippers are about moving Kawhi Leonard, but based on multiple reports on Sunday, there's a chance the superstar is traded.

Fischer reported that the Clippers have had "real trade conversations" with Leonard's former team, the Raptors, about a deal. That would hypothetically send Leonard back to the franchise where he won a title and Finals MVP in his only season, 2018-19.

The Athletic also reported, however, that the Mavericks, including president Masai Ujiri, have interested in acquiring Leonard, including a potential return package highlighted by P.J. Washington, Klay Thompson and draft picks.

Hornets sending Miles Bridges to Suns, acquiring Grayson Allen

Phoenix and Charlotte are swapping high-level role players, with the Suns landing the athletic forward, Miles Bridges, and the Hornets trading for both Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale. Additionally, the Suns get a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick, while the Hornets get a 2033 first-round pick.

Bridges will enter the Suns' starting five an offensive weapon, while Allen should help backfill the void left by the Hornets' LaMelo Ball trade.

Thunder re-signing Isaiah Hartenstein

After cutting ties with Wiggins and Joe, the Thunder have created some room to bring back their key center, Isaiah Hartenstein. He has agreed to a new three-year contract with OKC worth $75 million in new money.

Jose Alvarado agrees to new Knicks deal

The defending champions are bringing back their pesky bench guard, with Alvarado signing a new three-year, $14 million deal with the Knicks.

Pistons acquiring Isaiah Joe from Thunder

Isaiah Joe becomes another of the Thunder's cap casualties, being sent to another contender in Detroit.

Oklahoma City is landing two second-rounders in exchange for Joe.

Coby White agrees to three-year deal with Hornets

In the aftermath of the Ball trade, the Hornets are locking in Coby White as their point guard, signing him to a new three-year, $74 million deal.

Timberwolves acquiring LaMelo Ball in blockbuster

While an Antetokounmpo trade was expected, this is a trade that came more out of left field. The Hornets are moving on from longtime franchise focal point LaMelo Ball, sending him to the Timberwolves, where he'll make for an All-Star backcourt with Anthony Edwards.

Minnesota is also acquiring Josh Green, while sending Charlotte back Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps (2028, 2029, 2030) and three second-round picks (2029, 2032, 2033).

The Hornets get a haul of draft picks as they bid farewell to one of the NBA's more entertaining guards, while Minnesota finally has a true point guard next to Edwards.

Al Horford signing new Warriors deal

Veteran big man Al Horford is heading back to Golden State, declining his player option with intentions to sign a new two-year, $14 million contract. The 40-year-old is returning for a 20th season.

Grizzlies trade for Isaiah Stewart

During the 2026 NBA Draft, one of the notable active players moved was Pistons center Isaiah Stewart, who was dealt to Memphis for three second-round picks.

Austin Reaves agrees to Lakers extension

Re-signing Austin Reaves was known to be the Lakers' top priority this offseason, and they checked it off the to-do list early. Despite some rumblings about whether a team like the Pistons or Nets could pry him away from L.A., Reaves is back in purple and gold, signing a four-year, $185 million maximum contract to return to the Lakers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo traded to Heat

The trade every NBA fan had been waiting for arrived shortly before the draft. Miami won the Giannis sweepstakes, acquiring the future Hall of Fame forward, along with Bobby Portis, in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, including No. 13 this year, one pick swap and one second-rounder.

Boston and Minnesota appeared to be other potential destinations for Antetokounmpo, but he will now pair with Bam Adebayo in a star-studded Heat frontcourt.

Ayo Dosunmu signing five-year extension with Timberwolves

After clearing cap with the Randle trade, the Timberwolves are officially re-signing guard Ayo Dosunmu to a five-year, $112 million extension.

Nets acquire Julius Randle, send Nic Claxton to Chicago

A three-team deal is in the works involving multiple key players, with the most notable being Julius Randle. The big man sees his time in Minnesota come to an end, being traded to the Nets.

Center Nic Claxton is also heading to the Bulls in the trade, per Charania, giving Chicago a younger big man with strong finishing skills.

Trae Young lands $212 million extension with Wizards

Washington didn't get to see much from Trae Young after acquiring him last season, but with the Wizards eyeing contention in 2026-27, they have locked in their point guard for the long-term.

After opting out of his player option, Young has now agreed to a four-year deal worth around $212 million with Washington.

Hawks trading for Aaron Wiggins

With the Thunder facing some key decisions on role players this offseason, they've parted with their first rotation player. OKC is sending guard Aaron Wiggins to Atlanta for two second-round picks, per Charania.

C.J. McCollum returning to Hawks

After impressing vs. the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs, veteran guard C.J. McCollum is heading back to the Hawks on a one-year, $21 million deal.

Suns bringing back Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin, Mark Williams

A few key contributors are set to return to Phoenix, signing extensions early in the offseason. Collin Gillespie has agreed to a new four-year, $48 million extension, per Charania.

Additionally, Jordan Goodwin has inked a three-year, $19 million deal to return to the Suns, while center Mark Williams is returning to the team on a three-year, $38 million contract.
