‘Why Are We Wasting All of This Time Talking About a Loser?’ — Analyst Gets Blunt on Caitlin Clark Discourse
· Yahoo Sports
WNBA star Caitlin Clark has unsurprisingly been a trending topic throughout much of the season’s first half. As Clark continues to make headlines for on-court and off-court reasons, some media members believe the attention she receives is unwarranted. An analyst made that clear while offering a blunt assessment of Clark.
Analyst Boldly Calls Caitlin Clark a Loser
PFT Commenter blasted Clark on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” for failing to achieve the ultimate goal. Commenter said “Can I say something about the Caitlin Clark situation? I would like to opt out of all Caitlin Clark discourse until she wins something. Why are we wasting all this time talking about a loser? She’s never won a title.”

One of the most common counter-arguments critics of Clark mention while discussing her star power and impact on women’s sports is her lack of championships. As PFT Commenter points out, Clark has a hole in her resume regarding championships at every significant level.
Clark finished her high school career as one of the most decorated players in Iowa history. She was named Iowa Gatorade Player of the Year multiple times and Iowa Miss Basketball, among other honors. However, she failed to win a state championship during her four years at Dowling Catholic High School.
While Clark became the greatest Division I scorer in history at the University of Iowa and continued to win major individual awards, she remained winless in her quest for the highest honor. Clark led Iowa to the National Championship Game twice, losing to Angel Reese and LSU as a junior and to South Carolina as a senior.
Clark fans believe that her failure to win a college National Championship shouldn’t be viewed as a flaw, given that she chose to play at Iowa rather than a major national powerhouse like South Carolina or UConn.
Many critics counter that Clark may lack the special intangibles to truly elevate her teammates and help them achieve more than they seem capable of.
The debate followed Clark to the WNBA, where she hopes to help the Indiana Fever win a championship. The Fever notably won the Commissioner’s Cup last season, though Clark was injured and unable to play in the championship game.
If Clark was healthy during the Fever’s Commissioner’s Cup win last season, maybe that would have altered the discussion, though the Commissioner’s Cup doesn’t have the prestige of a major victory in the eyes of many WNBA fans.
After multiple soft-tissue injuries derailed Clark’s season last summer, she is fighting through more injuries. She’s already been ruled out for the Fever’s next game due to back pain. The Fever are hopeful that Clark’s injury concerns end soon, so she can potentially silence her critics this season.
