Bayern Munich’s Lennart Karl says he’s become more mature under Vincent Kompany
· Yahoo Sports
Lennart Karl has had a heck of a year and recently had some time to reflect on how he has changed as a player and a person working for Vincent Kompany.
“My game has definitely become more mature and more grown-up. I’ve improved defensively in particular. In the youth teams, I didn’t like running back. I scored a lot of goals, which was my bonus. But in professional football, the opposition punishes you immediately if you don’t contribute. I learned that quickly,” Karl told FC Bayern’s club magazine, Säbener 51 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “The coach gives me a lot of freedom. Against Hoffenheim, I once failed to pull off a stepover, and that immediately drew a bit of mockery on social media. But that didn’t bother me much, and I went on to perform well straight after. It’s good when the coach says that attacking players should show their style and try things out.”

Karl’s ability to keep the same confident — borderline cocky — mentality should serve him well. If Kompany can continue to help him cultivate that mindset and his talent, the sky could be the limit for the young German.
