Amad had a role to play in the goal, as his snapshot was not properly cleared by the German backline and fell to Kessie. The Al-Ahli midfielder made no mistake, sending fans around the stadium into a frenzy.
However, Die Nationalmannschaft rallied after the break, getting back into the game in the 68th minute through Deniz Undav. Just when it looked as though the Elephants would come away from the game with a vital point, the VfB Stuttgart forward struck again in the fourth minute of second-half injury time to seal victory for Germany.
However, with Ecuador only managing a 0-0 draw against Curacao, Ivory Coast still have a chance to qualify for the knockout stages. And Amad is adamant his team can make history this year.
Amad confident of progress to knockouts
Speaking after the defeat, Amad insisted that his team will learn from the defeat and progress to the knockouts. He said: “It was a really difficult game for us, and we knew it was going to be hard because we were playing against a top-quality team.”
“They have players that can make a difference at any point, but we are going to learn from this and we can still go through to the next round.”
The Elephants qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 2006 and were also involved in the tournament in the next two editions. However, they have never progressed beyond the group stages to this date.
As such, the country stands on the brink of history this year, as a positive result against Curacao on Thursday could send them into the knockout stages for the first time in their history. Central to their rise will be United’s Amad, who scored against Ecuador in the opening game and was lively against Germany as well.
Amad remains key to United’s plans
Amad showed his versatility in the 2025/26 season, further highlighting his importance to United’s plans. The Ivorian started the campaign as a wing-back under former head coach Ruben Amorim and then switched to an attacking role following Michael Carrick’s arrival.
Amad’s speed, work ethic and trickery were an asset for the Red Devils, although he may have to improve his goalscoring form to cement a place in the starting XI next season. With Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all reaching double figures in the 2025/26 campaign, the Ivorian now has his work cut out.
Amad finished with two goals and four assists in 33 appearances for the English giants in the 2025/26 campaign, managing just one assist in 17 games under Carrick.

Final Thoughts
A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person confirms that the Ivorian remains firmly in INEOS’ plans and any suggestion of his departure is far-fetched. United fans will hope that the player can build on his World Cup experience and hit a higher gear next season.
