Recapping 2025 season

Richardson lost the starting quarterback battle with Daniel Jones last summer and assumed the role of backup. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 12th after sustaining an orbital fracture when a stretch band during pre-game warm-ups snapped and impacted Richardson around the eye.

Late in the season, Richardson did return to practice, but he was never activated and added back to the 53-man roster.

Richardson appeared in two games last season in clean-up duty, playing 14 snaps. He completed 1-of-2 passes for nine yards.

Looking ahead to 2026 season for Anthony Richardson

Back in late February, Richardson requested a trade. However, the Colts have been unable to find a trade partner, so he remains with the team. As ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier this offseason, Richardson's trade market was "soft."

So while still with the team, Richardson is competing with Riley Leonard for the backup quarterback job. Shane Steichen says that the two will split reps and a decision won't be made until training camp and the preseason unfolds.

As far as we know, Richardson's trade request is still on the table. As The Athletic's James Boyd noted recently, there could be a "soft deadline" for getting a deal done early on in training camp.

Among Richardson's offseason priorities was focusing on his footwork and overall mechanics -- both of which can improve accuracy.
