The Miami Dolphins moved on from some key contributors in their cornerback room this offseason and brought in several new players to compete for jobs and snaps in the team's first season under new head coach Jeff Hafley.

Among the newcomers to the position group is Chris Johnson, whom the team took in the first round (pick No. 27 overall) of the 2026 NFL draft out of San Diego State.

Heading into his rookie season, Johnson understands the pressure that comes with being a first-round pick. In a recent interview with NFL Network, Johnson explained how he handles expectations and what he hopes to achieve in South Florida.

"I definitely thought about it, but you know, to me, nobody puts more pressure on me than myself," Johnson said. "Hearing a lot of outside noise, it really doesn't get to me because I'm my hardest critic. I want to be a perfectionist. I want to be here forever and be that foundational piece, like you said. I hold myself to those expectations. Hearing that from the media and fans and stuff like that, it ain't nothing that I'm not telling myself already."

Johnson has a lot on his plate early on with the Dolphins, as he's adjusting to life as a professional while cross-training at both nickel and boundary cornerback because it's currently unclear what the team needs most.

The 21-year-old has attacked practice the right way and answered every question the way a coach would want, so it seems that he's ready for whatever the league throws at him.
