Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski left Thursday’s start against the Pittsburgh Pirates early after he was hit by a comebacker, then got his legs tangled up with the runner at first.

The Dodgers later took to social media to confirm that Wrobleski suffered “a right hamstring contusion,” information they released alongside news that two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani also left the game with “left knee inflammation.”

When did Justin Wrobleski get hurt?

Wrobleski’s exit came in the fifth inning after he gave up a pair of home runs.

Those homers, for a combined three runs, put the Pirates back in the game after they had been down 5-0.

Perhaps in an effort to stem the Pirates’ offensive surge, Wrobleski acted aggressively to cover first after he was hit by a line drive in his left leg.

Sprinting toward the bag, he caught Freddie Freeman’s toss and tried to beat the runner to the bag, only for his momentum to carry him backwards into the runner just past first base.

Both players’ legs got tangled, and after he tried to walk off the pain, Wrobleski was taken out.

“Wrobleski was notably upset after being taken out, which could have been either frustration over his early exit and inability to finish his fifth frame or a reaction to a possible injury,” noted Dodgers Nation’s Nelson Espinal.

His final stat line was four runs, six hits, two walks and one strikeout over 4.2 innings pitched.

Will Klein came in to relieve Wrobleski and allowed another run, which was credited to the starter, but managed to get out of a jam with the bases loaded.

What’s the latest on Justin Wrobleski’s injury?

Details were scarce in the immediate aftermath of the injury, but based on the team’s description, it appears the contusion was sustained when he was hit by the comebacker, as the collision more involved the backs of his lower legs.

The Dodgers said it was his right hamstring, but video shows both the comebacker and the collison involved his left leg.

However, confirmation is very unlikely to be made available until Wrobleski undergoes a medical examination.

Dodgers Nation will provide updates on Wrobleski’s condition as they become available.
