According to Rivals recruiting insider Allen Trieu, it's a two team race for Don Spillers of Detroit -- Michigan State and Illinois. Louisville was previously in the mix but has recently fallen out of the race, with the Spartans and Fighting Illini the two teams remaining in contention.
Spillers is listed as a three-star prospect, with a recruiting rating of 87 in 247Sports composite rating system. He ranks as the No. 63 athlete and No. 13 player from Michigan in 247Sports' recruiting rankings for the 2027 class.
Trieu reported on Monday that Illinois did a great job making Spillers feel like he was "at home." Spillers visited Michigan State the week prior, with reports indicating he enjoyed the visit as well.
Spillers has not yet set his commitment date, but he has taken official visits to both Michigan State and Illinois now. So one would assume a decision is coming soon between these two Big Ten foes. Can the Spartans come out on top and keep this in-state prospect close to home? Or will he be the latest in-state prospect to pick another out-of-state option over Michigan State.
