How 4 Peoria-area teams won 2026 IHSA baseball sectional championships

The 2026 Illinois High School Association baseball sectional championships were Saturday, June 6.

Here are the four teams from the Peoria area that advanced to supersectionals next week.
CLASS 1A
Tremont
- How they won: Tremont heads to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2012 with its 7-4 win over Lexington in the Bloomington Sectional title game. The Turks scored three runs over the first two innings, getting first-inning RBIs from Andrew Dawson and Josh Papenhause as well as Griffin Meeker's RBI double in the bottom of the second. Two hit-by-pitches and an error loaded the bases for the Turks in the fifth. Jake Williams then roped a two-run scoring single followed two batters later with Jack Oyer's RBI double. Meeker made it 7-0 with his RBI groundout. The Turks, who have a 2011 fourth-place finish, have won 22 in a row.
- What's next: Tremont (36-2) vs. Armstrong (22-3), 6 p.m. Monday, June 8 in the Bloomington Supersectional at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Putnam County
- How they won: Putnam County pounded out 11 hits on its homefield to beat Fulton 11-2 in the Granville Sectional championship game. The Panthers scored in the top of every inning but the third, as six PC players had at least one RBI. Johnathon Stunkel was a triple short of the cycle with a 4-for-5 day. He singled in the first, doubled in the second, homered in sixth and added another double in the seventh. Stunkel also picked up the win, striking out four, walking two and giving up four hits on 97 pitches. Kade Zimmerman's two-run triple in the first started the scoring for Putnam County, who last won a sectional in 2013.
- What's next: Putnam County (24-11) vs. Galena (23-7), 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 8 in the DeKalb Supersectional at Northern Illinois University.
CLASS 2A
Brimfield/Elmwood
- How they won: Brimfield/Elmwood walked it off again, beating Illini West 7-6 in the Chillicothe Sectional title game. The Indians, who won their sectional semifinal in their last at-bats, got a two-out, run-scoring single from Noah Malone to seal the program's sixth sectional title and first since 2022. B/E went ahead 5-2 in the bottom of the fourth behind five hits highlighted by RBIs by Dane Fagerburg (triple), Layne Johnson (single) and Brody Kenney (double). IW (29-7) responded with two runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game at 6-6. Kaeden Schatsiek, an Illinois State signee, was walked four times and struck out seven in 5 innings for B/E.
- What's next: Brimfield/Elmwood (32-5) vs. Ottawa Marquette (36-3), 5 p.m. Monday, June 8 in the Peru Supersectional at St. Bede.
CLASS 3A
East Peoria
- How they won: East Peoria won its first sectional title since 1974, beating Mid-Illini Conference foe Dunlap 5-3 at the Washington Sectional title game. The Raiders used an Auggie Lohnes RBI-single to break a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. East Peoria added a pair of insurance runs off a pair of two-out hits in the sixth. Breckin Parker made it home on an RBI single from Roman Moody (2-for-3), who then scored for a 5-2 lead on Jackson Ahrens’ triple. Bradley recruit Eli Michanicou put Dunlap (30-8) ahead with a two-run homer in the top of the third. Illinois State signee and EP ace RJ Duncheon struck out three and walked four in 6.2 innings.
- What's next: East Peoria (26-13) vs. Geneva (32-7), 6 p.m. Monday, June 8 in the Geneseo Supersectional.
