The Tennessee Volunteers football team is once again dealing with an off-field issue involving a player during the summer. This marks the second consecutive season something like this has happened, although Coleman’s situation appears to be more mental in nature.

Coleman has been going through a difficult stretch, as he did not participate much for Tennessee during the spring. He recently had to delete his Instagram account due to the negativity he was receiving over a post.
“Tennessee EDGE Chaz Coleman has deleted his Instagram amid a post from earlier this month going viral online. The Penn State transfer has yet to arrive in Knoxville for voluntary workouts, and continues to be one of the most confusing storylines of the offseason,” Fox Sports Knoxville’s William Patteson posted.
This is simply not ideal for Tennessee or Coleman. He is now in a situation similar to Nico Iamaleava and Boo Carter. The only problem for Coleman is that there is no transfer portal window for him to easily exit.
“That has the Coleman situation feeling all-too-familiar as Coleman could become Nico 2.0. The biggest difference between now and then is there's no spring transfer window this year so Coleman actually has no way out, no matter how much he apparently regrets not going to his home state Ohio State,” All For Tennessee’s Dekota Gregory wrote.
The only way for Coleman to leave the program would be through dismissal. Vols insider Austin Price believes that could be a possibility in the near future.
“It does not feel like he'll be a part of this program come August,” Price said.
This is not good for the Vols, especially Jim Knowles, who was counting on Coleman to be a leader on the defense. However, some situations are simply out of anyone’s control, and in this case, Coleman appears to be dealing with personal challenges.
Tennessee will now have to adjust its defensive line rotation, but it will move forward. Coleman was a very exciting addition for the program, but it appears things may not pan out as expected.
