The 22-year-old San Antonio Spurs star is also in line for a monster sneaker contract on the heels of Steph Curry agreeing to a deal worth more than $400 million with Chinese sportswear manufacture Li-Ning.

The 7-foot-4 French superstar is poised to become a sneaker free agent in October, ESPN’s Shams Charania said on the Cousins podcast with Tracy McGrady

“Kevin Durant and LeBron James are locked in at Nike,” Charania said. "Now Stephen Curry is at Li-Ning. Those are really the three faces of this current generation of players. And then you think about the next generation of guys. Victor Wembanyama is on the highest stage now at the NBA Finals. Sources tell me his shoe deal is actually up in October as well, so he’s going to be a sneaker free agent soon.

"Think about the timing of this. He's 22 years old, about to be in the Finals, just won Conference Finals MVP, and just won Defensive Player of the Year—the first unanimous winner ever."

Wembanyama, whose San Antonio Spurs open the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night, first signed a multi-year footwear and apparel endorsement deal with Nike while playing professionally in France for Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92. He officially extended that contract into his NBA career just before the San Antonio Spurs made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Wembanyama, who is also going to be the NBA 2K27 cover athlete, is featured in Nike’s GT performance series, but does not have a signature shoe of his own.

In April 2024, Nike revealed his “Alien” logo.

“Anthony Edwards is locked in at Adidas and has a big deal,” Charania said. "Luka Doncic is locked in at Jordan Brand and has a big deal. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a major deal with Converse. Jayson Tatum is also locked in at Jordan Brand. When you think about it, all those young faces are already locked in, while Victor Wembanyama is at Nike with his shoe deal expiring soon.

"We'll see what happens with his future on the sneaker side."
