Where does Commanders' duo of Dan Quinn and Jayden Daniels rank?
· Yahoo Sports
One year ago, Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn and quarterback Jayden Daniels looked like the next great coach/QB combo. The Commanders were coming off a surprising 12-5 season, in which they reached the NFC Championship Game for the first time in 33 years.

Unfortunately, things fell apart in 2025, with Washington going 5-12 as Daniels missed 10 games due to injuries. Quinn had to take over defensive play-calling in the second half of the season, and after the season, replaced both defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
The 2026 season is a critical one for the Commanders. Quinn's job could be on the line if Washington doesn't return to respectability.
So, where does the duo of Quinn and Daniels rank among all 32 head coach/quarterback combinations?
Matt Verderame recently ranked all 32 coach/QB combos, and has Quinn/Daniels at No. 18.
The Commanders reached the NFC championship game in 2024, then failed to make the playoffs last season. The difference? Daniels’s health, which saw him play only seven games, while Washington finished in third place in the NFC East.
If Daniels is healthy, he’s electrifying. As a rookie, he threw for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns while rushing for another 891 yards and six scores. Going into his third year, he needs to find a way to stay healthy.
With the Commanders adding a ton of defensive talent this offseason to aid Quinn’s specialty, including edge rushers Odafe Oweh and Charles Omenihu, linebackers Sonny Styles and Leo Chenal, and safety Nick Cross, they could make a huge leap back into contention.
Last year, Verderame had the Commanders' duo ranked No. 8.
While being ranked 18th seems fair, here is the issue: How could the Giants' combo of John Harbaugh and Jaxson Dart be ranked 15th? Harbaugh no longer has Lamar Jackson, and Dart is entering his second NFL season with much to prove. That's certainly an interesting choice.
Otherwise, dropping Quinn and Daniels to No. 18 seems accurate. Both have a lot to prove in 2026, something neither would deny. As Daniels told the media last week, you're always in the business of trying to prove yourself in the NFL.
It will be interesting to see how Quinn's new coaching hires, specifically offensive coordinator David Blough, will be. Blough and Daniels are close, which should help them get off to a strong start.
