Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout charged to the individual lead of the NCAA men’s golf championship with a 7-under-par 65 in Sunday’s third round at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.

Stout’s round matches the second-lowest score carded by a Cowboy at the NCAA Championships. After opening with a 1-over 73, Stout posted a 5-under 67 on Saturday, then moved up 12 spots in the standings Sunday. He holds a one-shot lead over three players.

The Cowboys finished up Sunday’s action in a three-way tie for fourth, needing to remain in the top eight after Monday’s round to advance to the match play bracket.

OSU opened with a 7-over-par 295 to sit in 20th place after the opening round, but shot 21 strokes better in the second round to charge into the top five. The Pokes shot 287 on Sunday and are eight shots ahead of ninth place, which is held by OU at even par.

The fourth round of stroke play is set for Monday, with the match play quarterfinals and semifinals Tuesday. The 36-hole championship match is Wednesday.
