Class of 2027 5-star recruit set to visit Kentucky Wildcats this week

· Yahoo Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats are back in action on the recruiting front, and Mark Pope and company will get another chance to put their best foot forward with one of the top players in his class. Ryan Hampton will reportedly be taking an official visit to Lexington this week, with the timeframe set for later in the week.

Hampton, who is playing at DME Academy, is the sixth-best player in the Class of 2027 and the top small forward in the class. He drops to the tenth-best player in the 247Sports Composite scoring system. Hampton has already taken visits to Nebraska and NC State, and he holds 27 offers already. There's going to be no shortage of suitors for the 6-foot-6 shooting guard.

That said, Eric Bossi was among those who reported the upcoming visit of Hampton to Lexington, and it's worth noting that LSU and SMU are listed as 'warm' by 247Sports as well.

This visit comes as the Kentucky staff is awaiting some major news on transfer forward Milan Momcilovic. The Iowa state forward could be a huge boost to the program for the foreseeable future and could have a lasting impact.

The Cats, especially under Pope, haven't been terrific over the last few seasons at recruiting incoming high schoolers. Pope struck out on many of the top options in the Class of 2026 and doesn't have a five-star talent set to join his roster. Hampton, down the road, would be a huge win for this staff.

Hampton could reclassify, but that ship has sailed. He's set to be in the Class of 2027, and considering the strength of the incoming class, that could bode well for him down the road as well.
