Wanted men charged after assault at downtown hotel; boater missing near Cherry Beach

Two more people have been arrested and charged after a person was allegedly assaulted and robbed last month while waiting to check in at a downtown hotel.

Toronto Police said the incident happened on April 25 in the Bay St.-Adelaide St. W. area, where a verbal altercation between the victim and a group of five men waiting in line ahead of them turned physical.

Police said the men allegedly assaulted the victim, who also had personal property stolen.

The suspects then fled on foot.

Police said two outstanding suspects were arrested over the last couple of weeks after they had previously charged three other men.

Nadeem Ali, 32, of Oakville, was arrested on May 19 and charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm. Mahad Awan, 24, of Brampton, was arrested on Monday and charged with the same offences.

Those charges were also laid against Piraveen Jegathesvaran, 30, of Whitby, Gurman Bhandal, 25, of Caledon, and Harneet Dhindsa, 25, of Blue Mountains, who were arrested earlier this month.

Boater missing, another rescued near Cherry Beach

Police continue to search for a missing boater after an inflatable vessel carrying two people and a dog capsized Wednesday afternoon near Cherry Beach.

Toronto Police said they were able to find a man in his 40s and the dog after the small boat tipped over around 1:45 p.m., leading to a marine rescue on Lake Ontario.

The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In an update just before 6 p.m., police said the marine unit was continuing to search for the second boater.

Youths injured after clash in Mississauga

An altercation between two male youths led to a heavy police presence Wednesday evening in Mississauga’s south end.

Peel Regional Police said they responded to the incident at about 4:40 p.m. in the Dundas St. W.-Erindale Station Rd. area near the University of Toronto Mississauga campus.

Police said both boys were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Current evidence suggests no suspects outstanding,” police said on social media.
