Canada star Alphonso Davies will likely miss his country's World Cup opener due to a hamstring injury, but head coach Jesse Marsch is optimistic the 25-year-old will play a part at the tournament on home soil.

Davies suffered the injury earlier this month in the second leg of Bayern Munich's Champions League semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern said that the left back would be sidelined for "several weeks," putting his availability for the World Cup in doubt.
Canada will open the World Cup on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto. On Monday, May 25, Marsch admitted that Davies likely wouldn't be ready for the match at BMO Field.
“No, I don’t think he’ll be ready quite on June 12, but we’ll see,” Marsch said at a press conference.
Marsch was asked if his team's captain would be able to play at all at the World Cup, and replied: "Yes."
Following its opener, Canada will face Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24 to close out Group B play.
Marsch said that Davies was set to join up with Canada on May 31 in Edmonton ahead of a friendly against Uzbekistan the following day.
"We'll pick up his rehab from there, and try to put him in a position to physically succeed and to be part of our team," Marsch said.
Davies has made 58 international appearances for Canada since 2017, scoring 15 goals and wearing the captain's armband since 2024.
But due to various injuries, he has not featured for the national team since March 2025.
Davies scored in the 2022 World Cup against Croatia, which was Canada's first ever goal at the competition.
