Angels Ambush deGrom, Rangers in 9-6 Rout

· Yahoo Sports

Well, Jacob deGrom didn't have a really great outing on Friday night for the Texas Rangers.

In fact, the Los Angeles Angels, one of the worst teams in baseball, managed to ambush deGrom en route to a 9-6 win on Friday night at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif.

With the loss, deGrom now falls to 3-4 this season. He worked just three innings, giving up six earned runs, six hits, walked three, and struck out three. But deGrom also gave up two home runs and, well, it just wasn't his night.

Angels starter Grayson Rodriguez got the victory, going 5 2/3 innings in getting his first win this season. Rodriguez gave up seven hits, four earned runs, walked two, struck out five, and also gave up a home run.

A four-run first inning had the Angels off and running. Zach Neto hit his sixth home run, a solo shot, and that put his team up 1-0. Then, with Mike Trout and Jorge Soler on the bases, Wade Meckler hit his first home run this season. His three-run blast off of deGrom staked the Angels to a 4-0 lead after one inning.

Then, in the bottom of the third inning, Logan O'Hoppe singled to left, scoring Nolan Schanuel and Soler as the Angels extended their lead to 6-0.

Brandon Nimmo finally got the Rangers on the board with his sixth home run this season, a solo shot over the center-field wall. With Texas now down just 6-1, Evan Carter tripled to center field. Jake Burger and Justin Foscue scored, helping the Rangers whittle into the Angels' lead a bit more at 6-3.

Texas inched closer to 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning on Foscue's RBI single. The Rangers got within a run at 6-5 in the top of the seventh when Nimmo doubled to right field. Andrew McCutchen scored, but Josh Jung was thrown out at the plate as right fielder Adell threw it to Neto at shortstop. Catcher O'Hoppe then put the tag on Jung.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Rangers reliever Jalen Beeks gave up a solo home run to the Angels' Oswald Peraza. Peraza's sixth home run this season helped Los Angeles inch ahead a little more at 7-5.

Well, the Angels weren't done scoring, and Neto wasn't done hitting home runs. He connected on his second homer of the night, and the Angels went up 8-5. Schanuel's RBI single scored Mike Trout and the Halos closed out the scoring at 9-5.

Texas was 3-for-7 with runners in scoring position and ended up leaving six runners on base on Friday night. The Angels could have scored a lot more on Friday night as they were 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Los Angeles ended up leaving eight runners on base.

The victory gave the Angels an 18-34 overall record, while the Rangers fell to 24-26. Both teams go at it again on Saturday as the weekend series continues at Angels Stadium.
